I’ve had a lot of jobs in the cycling industry. I started in event services when I was 14 years old, traveling the country, setting up race venues. I fell in love with cycling here, and spent all my time at the races watching from the stage.
Several years later, I began announcing, and started building my client list from local and regional races to national tours, national championships, and world cups.
But what does an announcer do? Your announcer should provide more than just race commentary. Introductions, interviews, contests, and sponsor plugs are all equally important aspects of a good event, in addition to excellent, understandable, and informative race coverage.
I studied journalism at the E.W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University, with a specialization in Advertising Management and now work full time as an announcer and freelance writer.
